2009-2010 Coaching Staff
18 Red - Amanda Rizor
Amanda is beginning her second year with FaR Out. She is originally from Battle Creek where she played varsity volleyball at Lakeview High School. She then went on to play at Kellogg CC and Cornerstone University. She currently works in the Lakeview school system and is the varsity coach at Comstock High School. You can usually find Amanda reading, listening to the Dave Matthews Band, or catching up on her favorite TV shows, including Project Runway and Top Chef.
17 Orange - Katie Keur & Korie Schmidt
This is Katie's first season with FaR Out and we are excited to have her join our staff. She has a wealth of playing and coaching experience, which began at West Ottawa High School where she is now the varsity coach. After graduating high school, she went on to play at Hope College and competed at the semi-professional level in Europe. Katie still enjoys playing volleyball, as well as running. Her favorite foods include spaghetti and ice cream.
Korie will be assisting Katie this season, which she did this fall at West Ottawa. Before joining Katie she was the JV assistant coach at Grand Haven and the West Ottawa 7th grade coach for a season. She still enjoys playing a variety of sports, including volleyball, basketball, and softball. Some of her favorites include Panera Bread, contemporary Christian music, and the Twilight movies.
16 Yellow - Joe Steenhuysen
Joe and his wife Roxane took over Kentwood Volleyball Club when they began coaching at East Kentwood High School. The club later became FaR Out. He began his coaching career in the sport of football, but has become a studier of volleyball since meeting his wife and watching his daughters develop a passion for the game. He is a middle school P.E. teacher at Valleywood MS and an athletic director at East Kentwood High School.
16 Banana - Jason & Stephanie McIntyre
Jason & Stephanie are beginning their second season with FaR Out. They bring a lot of enthusiasm and passion to their team. Stephanie completed her first season as the varsity coach at West Catholic this fall. Stephanie's hobbies including cooking, crafting, and watching movies. Jason works very closely with Stephanie at West Catholic and enjoys playing as much as he can.
16 Daisy - Alan Kaufman
Alan has been coaching with FaR Out for over 8 years. She has a wealth of knowledge coming from a variety of levels, including USAV teams and playing collegiate club volleyball. Alan enjoys officiating, woodworking, and photography.
16 Gold - Krista Groce
Krista is another alumni who has returned to begin with coaching career with FaR Out. Krista played high school volleyball at East Kentwood and collegiate volleyball at Kent State University. She coached a 12 & under team at Renaissance Volleyball Club in Cleveland in 2008 and assisted the East Kentwood JV teach this fall. Krista enjoys exercising, Mexican food, and ice cream. Favorite movie is the Blind Side and favorite book is The Notebook.
15 Green - Megan Garner & Brandi Root
Megan began coaching at FaR Out in 2002. She has coached every level from 12s-18s. Originally from Indiana, she landed in Grand Rapids by playing collegiate volleyball at Cornerstone University. She has a variety of coaching experience including 2 years as a varsity assistant at EKHS, JV coach at Battle Creek Lakeview, and 3 seasons as the assistant coach at Taylor University. She is also a personal trainer at the YMCA. In her spare time Megan enjoys exercising, reading, and doing crafts.
Brandi will be assisting Megan this season. She is a graduate of Jenison High School where she played volleyball. She continues to enjoy playing beach volleyball. This fall she completed her 3rd season as a coach at Jenison Jr. High. Brandi's hobbies including shopping and working out. Favorite foods are pizza and ice cream.
15 Lime - Desiree Mirambeau
Desiree is beginning her 3rd season with FaR Out. She is a lover of the game and plays whenever she can. She played collegiate volleyball at Miami Dade CC and San German University in Puerto Rico. Desiree has coached at Tri-Unity as the JV coach since 2007 and also teaches the youth volleyball class at the Visser YMCA. She enjoys playing racquetball, bike riding, and doing crafts. Her favorite food is sushi.
15 Evergreen - Megan Winczewski
Megan is another one of our new coaches this season. We are excited to have her experience and enthusiasm. She played collegiate volleyball at Lewis University in Illinois and continues to play in indoor and beach volleyball leagues. Megan has a variety of coaching experience at various levels, including club, junior high, and high school. Her hobbies including riding horses, scrapbooking, and running. She is a lover of country music and her favorite food is Italian.
14 Blue - Elissa Grochowalski & Ellie VanderWall
This will be Elissa's second year with FaR Out, but she brings a wealth of knowledge to our club. Elissa played high school volleyball at Tri-Unity and college volleyball at Cornerstone University. She later worked as an assistant coach at Cornerstone for two seasons. She has also coached at the JV level at Forest Hills Eastern and assistant the Varsity team at West Catholic. Elissa loves traveling, snowboarding, and playing beach volleyball.
Ellie is a junior at East Kentwood High School and has participated in FaR Out since she was 12. Ellie has a heart of gold and is a great volleyball teacher. In her spare time she is always looking for ways to help others as evidenced by a recent missions trip she took to Mexico. She has a great passion for music and books with John Mayer and Harry Potter topping her list.
14 Turquoise - Emily Evans
Emily is beginning her first year with FaR Out as a coach, but participated in our club when she was attending South Christian High School. She was named Athlete of the Year during her senior year at South. Emily played collegiate volleyball at Robert Morris University. While in college, she coached a USAV team for two seasons and just completed her first season as the JV coach at Grandville High School. Emily's favorite movie is Cars and favorite book is Battlefield of the Mind.
14 Navy - Lindsey Hooker
In her second season with FaR Out, Lindsey has already established herself as a very enthusiastic coach who is well-liked by her players. She was one of our nominees for coach of the year last season. Lindsey played high school volleyball at Caledonia and also participated with FaR Out for 4 seasons. She is currently a sophomore at Davenport University. She enjoys camping, fishing, country music, and the Harry Potter movies.
14 Periwinkle - Jess Ziccarello
Jess will be starting his first season with FaR Out, but will be one of our most experienced coaches. He has extensive playing and coaching experience. He has played at Count College of Morris in New Jersey, on the Army Varsity team, and in a variety of grass and indoor leagues. Since he has started playing, he has always had a desire for coaching as well. He holds an Advanced Coaching Certificate. Most recently he has been coaching girls soccer and is excited to join our staff.
13 Purple - Jennifer DeMaagd
Jen is a FaR Out alumni who played in our club for 5 years. She played high school volleyball at East Kentwood and college volleyball at the University of Akron where she earned numerous awards. She currently coaches the 7th grade volleyball team at Valleywood. Jen enjoys spending time with her new husband Ben and watching movies, including her favorite Remember the Titans.
13 Lavendar - Karen Anderson
Karen has been with FaR Out for 8 seasons. She has coached all levels from 13s-17s. She always has a lot of energy to bring to her teams and was selected as FaR Out's coach of the year last season. She played high school volleyball at Jenison and and college volleyball at Cornerstone. Karen's hobbies include reading and laying out. Her favorite foods are Coke and Ketchup.
12 Pink - Jennifer Shaw & Mary Ryerson
Jennifer is beginning her second season with FaR Out. This fall she was also the JV coach at South Christian High School. She played collegiate volleyball at Edinboro University in Pennsylvania. She enjoys reading and watching movies in her spare time.
Mary will be assisting our 12 & under team this winter. She is a senior at East Kentwood and has 7 years of playing experience at FaR Out and East Kentwood HS. She also enjoys playing tennis in her spare time, as well as listening to the latest Taylor Swift music.
