Staff

2011-2012 Staff 

We are pleased to announce our staff structure for this season.  We will have a group of lead coaches who will oversee individual and team training at each site on each evening of practice.  They will facilitate drills and mentor coaches insuring that a good teaching and competitive environment exist during each practice session.  They will also assist other coaches at tournaments.

Regional Teams

Krista Groce - Krista was a standout middle blocker at both East Kentwood and Kent State University.  She is currently the assistant coach at Davenport University.  She also works summer camps at Notre Dame, Michigan State, and DU.  She loves getting ideas for interior design from HGTV.  Cooking is also a hobby of hers.  Her favorite book is The Tipping Point and favorite movie is The Help.

Lexie Spetoskey - Lexie is a graduate of Lakewood High School.  During the time she also played at Blue Power and FaR Out.  She just finished her freshmen season as a setter at Davenport University.  In her free time she enjoys cooking, baking, and hanging out with her puppies.  Her favorite movie is What a Girl Wants and favorite book is Brianna's Gift.

Jason Johnson - Jason has a plethora of coaching experience -- 13 years at the collegiate level, 4 years as a club director, and 5 years as a varsity high school coach.  His hobbies including reading, being outdoors, and spending time with his family.  His favorite food is a great steak and favorite movie is Miracle.  The books you might catch him reading are Lord of the Rings, Quiet Strength, and Blue Like Jazz.

Katie VanderMeer - Katie is a local standout having played four years on the East Kentwood varsity team, one year at Michigan State, and three years at Aquinas College where she was a 3-time All-American.  She has coached for three years at Saints Juniors, and is currently the JV/Assistant Varsity coach at GR Catholic Central.  Katie enjoys playing beach volleyball, shopping, and rollerblading.  She loves Chinese food and her favorite movie is The Blind Side.

Alan Kaufman - Alan has a total of 13 years coaching experience.  Two ACL surgeries after many years of playing USAV forced Alan to try his hand at coaching.  He coached 15-17 year old teams with FaR Out.  He loves getting to watch players get the most out of their skill and seeing the drive and determination of each player striving to achieve their personal goals.  His favorite food is steak and favorite music is rock & roll.

Betsy VanderMeer - Betsy brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to our club.  Some of her previous coaching positions include East Kentwood JV coach, FaR Out Boys coach, Saints Juniors coach, and Aquinas College assistant coach.  She is currently still active in a variety of leagues, as well.  She also enjoys officiating, playing tennis, and working out.

Stephanie Campbell - Stephanie was a standout middle blocker at Madonna University.  While at Madonna she also coached some of their club teams.  She has been a JV coach at Milford High School and currently at East Kentwood.  She loves to cook, read, and spend time outdoors.  Her favorite food is Traverse City Chicken Salad and favorite music is country.

Marissa Bliss - Marissa is a lover of the game.  After playing two seasons at Cornerstone University, she has enjoyed coaching at both Northpointe Christian and the Rapid Fire volleyball club.  She is still finishing her degree at Cornerstone and is also a member of the women's soccer team there.  She enjoys being outside and traveling.

Sami Hausmann - Sami has a diverse background in the volleyball world.  She played at 3 different colleges -- GRCC, Northwood, and Davenport.  She spent 4 seasons coaching with MVA.  Her hobbies include riding horses and traveling.  She loves noodles and her favorite shows are found on HGTV and TLC.

Kelse Moon - Kelse is originally from Fremont and just finished her junior season at Davenport University.  She is a lover of the outdoors, especially during the summer.  She enjoys being crafty and finds lots of great ideas on Pinterest.  She also has a hidden talent of knitting.  Her favorite dessert is pie, especially raspberry pie.

Megan Toth - Megan is a graduate of Battle Creek St. Philip and was a 4-time state champion in Class D.  She played one year at Aquinas College before deciding to focus on her schooling.  She also coached for Saints Juniors last year.  Outside of volleyball she enjoys basketball and swimming.  Her favorite book is A Walk to Remember and favorite food is chocolate ice cream.

Kate Zwier - Kate just finished her fourth season at Cornerstone University where she was also a summer camp coach for the last three summers.  She loves anything that means being outdoors.  Kate also enjoys anything to do with food . . . cooking, eating, grocery shopping, and watching the Food Network.  Her favorite movies include all of the Disney and Pixar movies.

Ashley McKenzie - Ashley is a Grand Rapids native having played at Northview High School.  She has also coached locally with the Northview Rocket Volleyball Club and is currently the JV coach at Wyoming Park.  She is also finishing her degree in Special Education right now.  Her favorite food is ham & pineapple pizza.  Her favorite book is House Rules.

Hannah Stone - Hannah is a graduate of Hudsonville High School and also played two years on the top FaR Out 18s team.  She just finished her freshmen season at Davenport University and was named to the conference All-Freshmen team.  She enjoys going to the beach or the mall.  Her favorite foods include mashed potatoes and chocolate chip cookies.  She also enjoys Nicholas Sparks' books.

Tiffannie Gates - Tiffannie is currently the varsity coach at Grand Rapids Christian.  Previously she spent 7 years at East Grand Rapids, and 1 year at MVA.  She is originally from Southern California where she played for Cal Juniors before going to Arizona State University on a full-ride scholarship.  She stays busy with all of her kids' activities, as well as home improvement projects.  Her favorite TV shows are found on HGTV and DIY network.

Karen Beverage - Karen has been coaching with FaR Out since 2002.  Outside of club volleyball she is currently the JV coach at South Christian.  Prior to that she spent 3 years at the Northpointe Christian varsity coach.  She was a standout middle blocker at both Jenison and Cornerstone University.  Karen got married this fall to Doug.  Her favorites include Ketchup, Coke, and country music.

Belma Alic - Belma is an alumni of both East Kentwood HS and FaR Out VBC.  She just completed her freshmen season as a defensive specialist at Davenport University.  Her hobbies include hanging out with friends and shopping.  She loves the Twilight Saga and Mac Miller.

Madeline Means - This is Madeline's first season coaching with FaR Out, but she is no stranger to the club as she played with FaR Out and at East Kentwood.  After high school she was an outside hitter for four seasons at Bowling Green State University.  Madeline loves to travel and bake.  Her favorite movie is The Sound of Music and favorite singers are Adele and Michael Jackson.
